About Us

Home of Refuge Outreach, Inc. (HORO) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization established in October 2011 by Melissa Galloway of Reidsville, North Carolina. The staff and volunteers at HORO have a commitment to promote the spiritual welfare of the homeless, and the identify and refer to our homeless friends as our “Neighbors.”

 

Our Objectives

1. To provide year-round safe and secure shelter for the homeless populations in Rockingham County.

2. To ensure they have food and clean clothing through donations from partnering agencies, individuals or organizations.

3. To assist our neighbors with getting important documentation such as NC ID, Card, Social Security Card, Birth Certificate, etc.

 

Future Goals

The new building that will be in Reidsville NC. It will be able to house more, Individuals, Families and Veterans. We will also provide the community with their local food thru Second Harvest and provide Emergency Assistance.

How You Can Make A Difference

 

We need you, your organization and/or corporation for:

+ Overnight Stay
Host a night(s) at the HORO Homeless Shelter.

+ Food Preparation
Bring/Prepare meals for our Neighbors. We prefer meals other than just “quick” meals. However, we want to offer variety.

We Care

 

Congregational Nurses visit the HORO Homeless Shelter on Monday nights (except the first Monday of each month) to assist our Neighbors with their Medical needs.

Ways You Can Help

Transportation

Buses and vans are needed for transportation to and from pick-up and drop-off locations for our Neighbors.

Supplies

Essential supplies are needed for use by both our Neighbors and Volunteers during their time at our Shelter. Some specific supplies needed include:

  • Gas Cards for Vans
  • Laundry Detergent and Softner
  • Wash Cloths / Towels
  • Toilertries
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Paper Plates, Utensils, and Cups
  • Paper Towels
  • Garbage Bags
  • Pillows

Process

Upon arrival at our Shelter, the Neighbors are served a hot evening meal by the Host Volunteers for that night. Typically, social time is provided after dinner, and may include movies, games, etc.
